| If you are over-weight or simply have discovered that you can not shed those few extra pounds no matter what you do then you are either approaching what is known as Metabolic Syndrome or you are right in the middle of it.
Metabolic Syndrome is caused by years of overeating sugar and high-glycemic carbohydrate foods that spike the blood glucose levels. High levels of sugar in the blood cause the body to over-stimulate the release of insulin - the body's storage hormone. The long-term effect is the pancreas becomes exhausted and insulin levels decline, leading to full blown diabetes. What is not commonly known is that high levels of sugar in the blood produce free radicals that oxidize or damage the cells that line the blood vessels. The resulting inflammation obstructs insulin's ability to carry glucose to the muscle cells. Instead, the glucose is carried to fat cells, where it is stored - typically around the waist.
It is at this point where the metabolism has been de-railed and one is on the road to obesity and/or diabetes.
Simply going on a diet doesn't work because the glucose continues to go directly to the fat cells. The solution requires a change in lifestyle away from high-glycemic foods.
For many, this is easier said than done. Fortunately, there is a solution. Many of our clients have had great success by using the USANA Health Science's RESETTM program. This is not a diet. Instead, the program utilizes nutrient rich meal replacements in addition to vitamin and mineral supplements that support glucose metabolism and antioxidants that protect against free radical induced inflammation. On average, the metabolism is reset in five days.
A recent clinical trial showed that people on the RESETTM program lost an average of five pounds in the first week without going hungry. Over the twelve weeks of the trial people lost an average of thirteen pounds. Additionally, total cholesterol dropped on average from 206 to 176, LDL fell from 131 to 111, and blood pressure fell from 131/86 to 121/80. These are impressive results!
The best part is that people are able to retrain their dietary habits and continue to lose weight without going hungry.
