we lose our inner balance and connection we tend to be chronically anxious or
plagued with inner emotional turmoil or habitually find events around us
upsetting. This keeps the body on “survival mode,” which leads to increased levels
of adrenal hormones in response to stress. The adrenal stress hormones are acid
producing and suppress the digestive system, which affects the amount of
enzymes that are produced, the quantity of bile available and intestinal
activity. The adrenal stress response also plays a role in the suppression of
hydrochloric acid production in the stomach. For these reasons, our emotional
state and our inner and outer connection have a direct effect on the kind of
bacteria that grow in the intestines and the amount of intestinal toxicity
present. In turn, the amount of bacteria and toxicity levels affect our
emotional well-being. This becomes a degenerative loop.
